How do I find out about an ancestor who lived in Socorro?
The best way is to do such research is at the
Genealogy Collection at the Special Collections Branch of the Albuquerque
Public Library, 423 Central Ave. NE, telephone: 505-848-1376. Additional vital records
are available at the State Archives in Santa Fe.
The only pertinent records that the Socorro Public Library has available are on-line, listed at
Genealogy in our
Web Links; microfilm copies of Socorro newspapers
that are NOT indexed, and the coverage of which is very spotty before 1960; and The Methodist Extractions
which have abstracts of birth and marriage records from the Socorro Methodist church 1850-1925, but which
are incomplete.
