Internet and Computer Use Policy
PURPOSE
The Socorro Public Library is committed to serving the information and lifelong learning needs of all its citizens. Computing resources greatly expand the availability of information beyond the traditional collections. Library computing resources are used to increase information services, educate the public in the use of new technology, and improve the efficiency of the library.
PUBLIC COMPUTING RULES

Because there are a limited number of computers:
Internet sessions are sixty (60) minutes. Patrons may request additional sessions if no one else is waiting to use the public computers, but will be asked to relinquish the computer after the 1st session if the computer is needed.
Reference software sessions are limited to one hour.
Printing costs 10 cents a page. Please pay at the circulation desk.
Patron is permitted to use personal storage media (i.e., disk, CD, flash drive, etc.).
Adults must use the public computers in the library's main room.
Children thirteen and under:
Must use the computers in the Children's Room if not accompanied by parent or guardian. (Game and internet computers in the Children's Room are specifically intended for children's use only.)
Must have parents or a librarian in attendance for use of the Internet.
May use library information databases accessed over the Internet with staff assistance.
Are not permitted to enter social networks (i.e., Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Blogster, etc.) in the Children's Room
Appropriate Use:
The viewing of pages which display graphic pornography is inappropriate
for a public and open environment and is prohibited by law.
Activities which: disrupt the Library; violate copyright or software license agreements; or damage equipment/data are prohibited.

While the Socorro Public Library provides wireless service to our patrons, the library staff is not trained to provide technical assistance for this service.
Not all sources on the Internet provide information that is accurate, complete, current, legal or philosophically acceptable to all citizens.
The Socorro Public Library is unable to control the content of the materials on the Internet, which change rapidly and unpredictably.
Parents and guardians of minor children (children under the age of 18) are as responsible for their children's use of the Internet in the Library as they are for their children's use of other library resources.
